RE: The EOS ICO for Dummies!

Excellent post!

Some of my favorite parts:

three objectives: equal opportunity to participate, broad awareness of the EOS network and ICO, and a fair and auditable distribution process.

and

This actually tells me that the EOS team is very confident in the technological capabilities of their system, and that they are committed to a truly broad and fair distribution of the network tokens, since they are willing to confer large benefits to their primary competitor by doing so.

I'll definitely be sharing this post and resteeming it. You've done an excellent job giving enough background information and explaining important details so anyone can participate.

Somehow you avoided to give your opinions on strategy though... heheh. I'm still not sure if it's going to make sense to jump in during that first few days, wait until the market opens, or try the smart contract months later or maybe even a half a year later once we know more about what EOS is capable of. It's an incredible ICO, that's for sure. It wouldn't surprise me if they raise a billion bucks.

Thanks for reading, and thoughtful comments as always! It seems like I did avoid details about my strategy.... heheheh. Historically I am not a great investor, and I don't really have the game theory knowledge to lay out a strategy with a really solid theoretical backing. My gut feeling is to pick a certain amount to invest, put about 20-25% in the initial 5-day period, and distribute the other 75-80% over probably 5-10 of the 23 hour periods? Maybe just say contribute equal amounts over 10 different 23 hour windows and use a random number generator to pick the windows. It requires very little thought, and the dollar-cost averaging is likely to get a PRETTY good average price. Probably some people will be clever and come out way on top of me though :) haha

That sounds like a great strategy! I agree, dollar cost averaging will probably make the most sense over the long term. Of course, there's always that temptation to play the market a bit and try to get lucky. Even if the price settles around, say, $1 or so, if it trades for much higher than that in the beginning, there will be some great opportunities to increase your holdings, depending on your risk profile.

I wonder... will the price start high and essentially go down for next 365 days? Will investors be okay with that? Seems that was the pattern Steemit and Bitshares followed.

When does the EOS ICO start?

I don't think anyone knows that yet :p

Looks like they restarted their TEST run. I bought some test EOS yesterday in window #2, but now the current window is back to window #1.

I'll be sure to mention if I spot anything around the LIVE run.

Dear EOS.IO Community,

Today we are excited to announce our Token Distribution schedule, which will commence June 26th 2017 at 13:00 UTC.

Good question. I'm not sure about that. It will definitely have a high, sustained inflation rate, especially early on, which could exert downside pressure on the price, but then again those holding the tokens could be relatively strong hands that are long-term bullish. If I remember correctly, part of the issue with the big crash in Steem price was that the volume was super low when it started trading since it was pretty much all locked in Steem Power, which will be a different scenario from this one. It's hard to guess what will happen. Novel ICO model could have completely novel price action! :)
