Daniel Larimer, bytemaster, who is the main developer of Steem and EOS tweeted like this:

#EOS will use hybrid dpos and bft which will gather 14+ signatures on every block with blocks produced every 500ms. Irreversible latency of a 1-2 seconds. #TON #eth @telegram

He mentioned TON and Telegram. Telegram needs enterprise-level performance for its message transactions. Current blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum cannot meet the requirement. Only EOS can do.
