BPs Vote to Freeze Hacked Accounts
Today was a first case discussion among elected 21 active BPs to freeze hacked EOS accounts before unstaking is enabled to avoid funds leaving accounts and lost forever.
There are 113 hacked accounts identified with total of about 1300 EOS tokens.
These are the emergency situations that really show true colors of elected BPs.
Some were hesitant to take any actions to avoid any risks or liabilities to themselves, some had to consult with their bosses.
EOS Tribe would like to make a public announcement that if we were elected we would not hesitate to take right actions to protect token holders accounts and go through great lengths to convince other BPs.
EOS Tribe is a fiercely independent operator and answers to no one but the token holders.

I see that you are trying to help people. I have been following this on EOS 911 but my question is as follows. How do you know these accounts were actually hacked or the people involved are telling the truth ? What if you freeze the wrong account ?
They have to provide proof that they owned the tokens and go through an arbitration process with vetted professionals. This is a painstaking process that watches for that type of stuff.
For the moment I don't see how can this be done properly. Any more references?
And where is the information regarding the process?
Can I ask, What proof do the "victims" provide to prove they actually had funds stolen ?

❗️June 17th, 2017 - ECAF gave guidance today that with the EOSIO constitution not yet ratified, they are not yet able to pass a ruling as validated arbitrator. Given the time sensitive nature of this case, Block Producers debated this difficult decision, reviewing evidence in full indicating that legitimate owners have proved their ownership and signalled their will for account suspension through https://recovery.eos911.io
BP’s reached unanimous consensus to freeze the below 7 EOS accounts. These will be passed to ECAF to rule on through full due process subsequently.
❗️Note: Block Producers discussed the process for around 2 hours and decided to only block those addresses that are starting to unstake.
❗️1) If you think you only lost/forgot your EOS private key please stay calm and wait for updates from ECAF and BPs, there will be a process in place to help you.
❗️2) If you’re 100% sure that your private key is compromised and the hacker started to unstake your tokens, and your account is not in the list, (you can check your account through https://eosflare.io) please @ me or any admin of the group.

The top 21 BPs agreed to freeze to wait for Arb, they have the power to do this if they all agree. And afterward they filed a claim on themselves to see if it was the right thing to do. We will always do whatever needs to be done to protect token holders on the network, securing the chain is our job. We were proponents of a middle ground - to have top 30-40 BPs cover the token holders from our inflation and wait until ECAF was operational so we did not overstep our boundaries.
At this time, BPs are effectively arbitrating against themselves and were only trying to do the right thing for token holders so their funds were not unstaked and liquidated by hackers. It is a very nuanced and difficult issue.
If ever presented with a choice, we will always protect token holders - even if it isn't the easy or popular choice. We ask that you reconsider the circumstances and understand the BPs handling this are doing everything they can do.
If ECAF can't respond within the next 24 hours, many are voting to unfreeze the tokens. I would add to that, if the tokens are not able to be recovered because of ECAf not being in place, perhaps some can come together and cover it themselves to make everyone whole.
