Internet 2.0

If you are like us, you probably have difficulty explaining what EOS is to people who aren’t already part of the community.

Here’s a good example of how these explanations usually happen and why they are so important.

Explaining EOS, you probably find yourself grasping for metaphors, saying things like, “Imagine Uber, but with no company,” or you might quickly find yourself in over your head with stuff like, “well, let’s talk about how the internet works.”

The latest video from Block.one delivers some really simple metaphors that might help you in these situations:

In the video, Daniel Larimer likens the EOS blockchain to a radio station. Anyone can tune in to broadcast their transactions and to monitor it. Everyone has the capability to see what’s going on, meaning it is both completely transparent and ultimately secure.

My favorite moment in the video is when CEO Brendan Blumer calls blockchain the next generation of the internet. The basic idea of the internet is unsecured data transfer. The EOSIO blockchain will rewrite that basic idea with a simple yet profound alteration. The basic idea of the internet 2.0 is secured data transfer.

EOSIO will create a new internet? I can’t help but think of this:

On Silicone Valley Richard Hendricks wants to build a new internet: “a completely decentralized version of our current internet, with no firewalls, no tolls, no government regulation, no spying. Information would be totally free in every sense of the word.”

Although he’s not using blockchain on the show, the value proposition for EOSIO is the same: A new version of the internet, based on secure data transfer.

When the global internet first launched it changed the world but most people didn’t realize it. Now we’re just a few days away from another world-changing threshold. Most people won’t notice it, but gradually, as they discover applications built on EOS, things will change.

“The proof is in the applications” EOS Dublin CEO Sharif Bouktila is fond of saying, “Mass adoption will happen when people realize the apps they’re using are better, faster and more secure. They might not know they’re running on EOS, but they’ll switch to an app that works better.”

Changing the world sounds grandiose and magical: a scene at the end of a fantasy movie where a flash of light banishes all the evil in the world. The reality is day after day of continuous hard work. That’s what EOS Dublin has committed to before, during and after the launch, and Block Producer teams around the world share this commitment.

Love it, your posts are always a good read.

I try to define EOS as a global operating system for blockchain interaction and Ethereum as just a single super computer.

I bet my bottom dollar that in 15 years it will is us not understanding the next iteration of blockchain and our kids getting frustrated trying to explain it to us, kind of like explaining the current internet to my grandparents now.

Not long now until we materialize the new internet.

agreed! We can't wait to see what happens next!

Thanks, this is great - I just bought some EOS. It's a great time to buy right now - since the whole market is down EOS has gone from $20 to just over $12 this week. I totally believe we are at a key point in history where both money and the internet are going to be totally revolutionised!

yep! same here! make sure you register your wallet too!
