This Week at Cypherglass — Infrastructure Team Update — April 29th, 2019

in #eos5 years ago

The rock solid, dedicated Cypherglass hardware and people were at it again these last two weeks. We did a bunch of lab work, testing, voted for three proposals and finished up some node upgrades. The last couple weeks we mostly sat in the number 25 position among block producer rankings, but just dropped a little to position number 28. Don’t worry faithful token holder, we’ll be back in the top 21 at some point. We believe that hard work, doing great things for EOS and having a great dedicated infrastructure will eventually be recognized and rewarded.

Here are some details about what we were up to this week.

• We are testing some upgraded new gear for the lab. Including gen 9 Intel 4.0GHz procs and new SSDs.

• We shut down our backup node in MSP to increase the disk size. Unfortunately (it’s happened before) the database corrupted, we had to load the backup from Kansas City. The dreaded “Replay Required” message strikes again on a node that was properly shut down.

• We voted for two proposals put forth to enable REX (EOS Resource Exchange) on the chain.
You can see them here…

Support from BPs seems to be overwhelming which is good. We are optimistic that REX will push forward some great things for EOS. This video is a little old, but it still provides a nice update on REX and shows you how you can test REX out now…

• We came closer to consummating a partnership with another great blockchain team to do some really cool dev stuff on the EOS platform. Stay tuned and we’ll announce details soon.

• We got the lab back to all SSDs, and did some VMware tuning for Linux that made for some nice improvements on disk IO.

• Finished testing on NodeOS v1.6.4.

• We grew the NodeOS volumes on six nodes by 128 GBs, and flattened an extra full node machine that we don’t use.
Upgraded all production nodes to NodeOS version 1.6.4

• We are still running a resync in our lab to an Ubuntu 18 machine. It’s now at 29.9M blocks. 14 days so far and still going. The chain is getting long. This should enable us to move all our nodes from Ubuntu 16 to Ubuntu 18 in the future. When the chain started B1 recommended Ubuntu 16LTS, but it’s getting a bit long in the tooth now.

• We voted to approve the first step of a lost key proposal here… https://eosauthority.com/approval/view?scope=eosdacserver&name=createlost&lnc=en. This step will create an account called eosio.lost which will be a privileged account that has rights for the lost key process. You can read more about the process here… https://eosauthority.com/lostkey.

• We had a slight dip in the price of EOS this week, so keep spreading the good word about the best token and blockchain on the planet. As that number goes up, all of the good BPs are able to give even more back to the community.

Go EOS!
