Cypherglass Infrastructure Update — April 16th, 2019

in #eos5 years ago

It was a fairly slow week for the Cypherglass infrastructure team. We did a lot of planning, dealt with a few problems and started ordering gear for our new lab. We are holding steady at number 25 in the block producer rankings and still looking forward to getting back into the top 21. The biggest news in EOS this week was the passage of the EOS User Agreement. Luke Stokes does a great job of summarizing it here… https://steemit.com/eos/@lukestokes/the-eos-user-agreement-is-live. Hopefully the EUA is just a start of true DPoS in action.

So here’s the lowdown on what’s happening in our infrastructure world…

• We replaced some drives in our lab and got vSAN all synced up. Since the EOS blockchain is becoming so large, the old ones simply weren’t big enough to hold all the data.

• We are looking to update the version of OS we’re running to something more modern. However we’ve found that Ubuntu 18LTS can’t even read a block file made on 16LTS.

• We are currently running a resync on a Ubuntu 18LTS machine from a Ubuntu 16 machine. That replay was a 22M block at last count. This should give us a clean set of files that Ubuntu18LTS likes.

• We renewed our VMware Users Group license. This provides licenses for our lab environment.

• We had a problem with an upstream device at our datacenter blocking ports that we needed open. After convincing them that we were right and they were wrong, we were able to get them to unblock the ports. Fortunately during this inconvenience, our amazingly redundant architecture was able to handle all of the traffic out of our Minneapolis datacenter.

The crypto spring thaw is holding steady with EOS sitting at 5.35 USD currently. God bless all the HODLRs. You deserve to at least drive a Pinto or maybe even a Civic. Hang tight cuz someday that Tesla is coming.

Enjoy your week and go EOS!

This is why I stopped using ubuntu for running nodes... RedHat works for business and here it works perfectly too... zero problems on migrations...
