Indeed the interchain communication and possibility of scalability via various chains comes as a complete surprise to me (if i remember right, one constitution draft explicitly forbade block producers working on more than one chain). Anyhow this solution might be able to compete with,- or even outcompete plasma, that i saw as one of the remaining advantages of ETH over EOS.
