EOS Registration - How and Why

in #eos6 years ago (edited)

With the launch of the EOS main net only 28 days away as of this writing, registering your tokens now if you have not already done so is a must.

Why do you need to register your tokens?

The current EOS token runs within an Ethereum smart contract as an ERC-20 token that is only being used just for distribution purposes until the EOS network launches, at which point the EOS token will be native to the EOS network and not run or be recognized on the Ethereum network. A snapshot of the Ethereum network will be taken on June 1st, all addresses that hold the ERC20 token AND have registered their wallet address with the EOS smart contract will get the equivalent value of EOS. Here is a great link with a live countdown and also a simple textbox where you can input your Ethereum EOS public key to see if registration was successful.

ERC-20 is a standard proposed and used by the Ethereum smart contracts that define a list of rules that developers follow to launch a token of their own. ERC-20 greatly simplified the process of creating tokens and was in part a significant factor in the boom of ERC-20 tokens and ICO's we witnessed in 2017.

Many articles say this 'Do this as the easiest way to register' but what can be more straightforward than clicking one button. The Exodus wallet released a one-click option in version 1.48 that will register you EOS with 1-click as long as you have a little bit of Ethereum in the wallet.
