French wall building: learning to make a lime/sand mortar

in #environment6 years ago

I have acquired new skills in my job as a garden renovator here in the South of France. Working in my mountain village, just a few minutes walk from my home, I am assisting a local man who has done this kind of work all his life... and doesn't speak a word of english, forcing me to practice my French.

THE FILM CAN BE VIEWED ABOVE

Not the same as cement, the standard for construction around here is a mixture of lime and sand, known as mortar.

There is an abundance of stone & slate here in the Pyrenees mountains which is why this classic building style can be seen everywhere.

In this episode I also share my excitement at the recent BTC pump which may just mark the long awaited end to the current crypto winter.

and then after you have built and impenetrable French wall watch helplessly as the Germans go around it.

Haha! We don’t mention the war around here ;)

Always great to pick up new skills. The way your boss is making you speak french reminds me of my time in Holland. I just wish I would have stuck at it, as a 2nd language must be awesome to have. How is your french going?

I understand more than i can speak but i get by okay. And the longer i stay the better i become. My 3 year old speaks it better than me just from listening to his mum!

haha, yes kids have a way of showing us up when it comes to learning new tricks, they're like sponges.

An awesome skill to learn from a master! You never know when it may come in handy to know! Makes a mess of the hands though...

It sure does. My hands no longer look like they have been tapping at a keyboard for a few years! And i feel sure i will need to know how to do this at one point in my life :)

Hello @samstonehill, thank you for sharing this creative work! We just stopped by to say that you've been upvoted by the @creativecrypto magazine. The Creative Crypto is all about art on the blockchain and learning from creatives like you. Looking forward to crossing paths again soon. Steem on!
