GLOBAL WARMING, The Cost of the Prosperity #1: Committed to the Environment

in #environment6 years ago (edited)

If people are to be segregated as bio-degradable and non-biodegradable, we will be confronted with an overwhelming number of non-biodegradable individuals.

Non-biodegradable individuals are those who do not care at all for the environment or if they do, only because of the economic and political considerations they can avail from the environment.

The deteriorating environment and the supremacy-oriented people we have today suggest a need for an absolute transformation that each and everyone must be involved for we have the moral responsibility to protect and preserve our biosphere over our created technosphere which we use to associate with "civilization".

The principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities should be construed as a perspective that calls for each one's moral and social responsibilities. The "taking note" of the Copenhagen accord should not be taken as a guarantee that we are still in a safe environment just because great leaders of great nations still favor economic and political stability over the present and clear danger of the environment.

It is imperative therefore to state that leaders are key factors in promoting environmental protection and conservation. Basically because leaders have the necessary political will that will motivate the people to do initiatives in helping our planet to rehabilitate.

Local environment in this global crisis is very important to resolve the issues. The Taguibo Watershed is but one of the controversies that should be taken seriously because from one's greediness arises the people's scarcity on water, the indigenous peoples' blatant violation of rights and the nature's grave abuse.

The Save Taguibo Watershed Network served as venue for mentors and advocates to experience and to take part in helping the environment. Even without an organizational membership, each one is encouraged to take part and to do simple yet effective ways to help. For great leaps comes from small things made by persons who truly understand and care for the next generations.

Our environment is not owned by the government or few individuals who have the economic power to exhaust it. We are all mere trustees. No one has the right to destroy it but instead each one has the responsibility to protect it for the next generations. We should not allow the growth and promises of our "civilization" alter our logic and transform us all to non-biodegradable persons.
