I just disagree with "Nobody cares how pretty your code is.", the "it just works" approch it's fine for a one shot project, but if also maintanability is important you have to understand what is the software purpose and how to refine it to implement new features as best as possible (without braking the existing stuff)

I only agree with you from a Software Engineer's perspective. But with over 20 years of experience trying to make my own products, I've come to realize that most projects will fail. Spending a year or more on a product just to make it maintainable for scenarios that will never happen is not good for an entrepreneur. Business should come before perfectionism. It does you no good if your product doesn't go anywhere, but you've spent hours upon hours making the code perfect.
