First Murray Ball and now Fred Dagg. 2017 is turning out to be as bad as 2016
That’s right, Fred Dagg (aka John Clarke) is dead at the tender age of 68.

I couldn’t believe when I read the news today. Fred Dagg was perhaps the biggest kiwi icon in my generation. Everyone knew who he was, and he was just a lovable rogue, in his singlet, shorts and gumboots.
He was rural New Zealand in the 70s. He went on to other things and then the Australians stole him, as they do with all the good things from Godzone.
His wit and philosophy will be sadly missed, and not just by the mobs of sheep that turned up whenever we was in the woolshed…
I’m sure there will be many tears shed at the University of Taihape where he studied, and the gumboots in that fair town will all be at half-mast.
