I learnt the art of Tie And Dye (Clothing designs) Today

in #entertainment7 years ago (edited)

My day was quite eventful; weird, fantastic, juicy, scary, sweet, memorable and even though towards the end something frightful happened, I know when it's time for me to sleep at night when I want to sleep, a smile would be the last thing on my face. Thank God for the gift of life.

My morning plan today got disrupted as I had planned to pay my convocation fee but in the end I couldn’t because of the ongoing problems in the university and this affected payments for convocation. Also, sadly my convocation which is supposed to come up next week Wednesday got postponed indefinitely…

Now, let's talk about the tie and dye!

Few days ago, I posted about an upcoming program on the 26th - 28 of December. The program tagged Festival of art and Culture was set up by some youths, I happen to be the secretary of the committee and it was accepted by our Religious leaders.

Activities like Dance, drama, fashion parade, songs would be presented during the carnival. They would all be in form of competition. For the program, about 150 youths are expected to be in attendance.

So today we had a workshop, where we learn the art of Tie and Dye.

Each representative at the workshop would go back to their different parishes to teach their members. Then each parish would make their own tie and dye prior to the commencement of the program.

The tie and dye would be used by the participants for the fashion parade representing each parish. Also, each parish would be graded on their level of creativity and originality.

So, today I learnt the following on how to make tie and dye.

Equipments needed for tie and dye
  • Hand gloves: Rubber gloves are used to protect the skin from irritation
  • Bucket: This could contain water or the chemical
  • Measuring cups and measuring spoons
    -Caustic soda

Clothing materials which could be used for tie and dye
  • Calico
  • Guinea brocade (Full cotton)
  • Dry lace
  • Sartin (Nylon dye would be used for this)
  • jeans etc

Names of designs which could be for tie and dye
  • Moon designs
  • Circles
  • Sugar cane design
  • Diamond design

We used the diamond design during the workshop today. You can see the diamond design on the clothing.

The designs come out based on the way you fold and tie the cloth

HOW TO MAKE TIE AND DYE
  • Wash the fabric first to remove stain
  • Mix the sodium carbornate in warm water
-Then soak the material in the dye fixer solution
-Fold into desired shape and tie with a thick rope
    -Mix the dye color
  • Deep the tied material into the solution of dye
  • This should be done for about five minute
  • Then rinse till no dye drops out from the dyed material
  • Leave to dry.

While making tie and dye, lighter colors should be used first.

(I hope I explained well but I am sure I would make an extraordinary beautiful one for you)

After the workshop, we took group photographs.

This is an act of entrepreneurship for those who will take it to the next level.
@mimy i hope you will not relax on what you have just learn, there is room for more opportunity if you can make more research of which will be the difference between you and every other person who learn the tie and dye with you.
