TV Mini Series for Introverts and Social Misfits: Olive Kitteridge

in #entertainment7 years ago

So I watched the HBO miniseries "Olive Kitteridge" about the life of a woman who doesn't quite fit the mold. I can relate on some levels to her awkwardness and definitely to her avoidance of awkward and fake social situations.

Hmm, I could try to do some kind of profound analysis of this four part miniseries and what it says about the human condition, but that would bore the both of us.

I do love these types of shows because they allow me to connect with people, well at least with imaginary people. For a short time you feel that deeper connection with characters that I am not so great at achieving in the real world. In the real world we all need to pretend that we're okay or they might call out the insanity bus on us.

So should you watch Olive Kitteridge? I don't think it's everyone's cup of tea. If you're looking for sex or action or a simple and likable protagonist, then don't watch it.

If authors like Tennessee Williams appeal to you, then you may like it. Oh also, if you liked the movie "About Schmidt" then you might find this interesting. Both "About Schmidt" and "Olive Kitteridge" have similar plot lines and story pacing.

Olive Kitteridge is currently available on Netflix.

Here is a trailer for the show.
