Deadpool 2 | A Surprisingly Emotional Experience

in #entertainment8 years ago

When leaving an early showing at my local theatre today, I had to take a few seconds to collect myself. The climax of Deadpool 2 is one of the most emotionally stirring 20 minutes in cinema. It is easy to love Ryan Reynold's rendition of the anti-hero, and in his struggles and imperfections... we as humans can relate.

Deadpool was cursed with abilities, and although he seeks a way out of his torment throughout not only this film, but through the lineage of the comics, it seems as though the deus ex machina of the Marvel Universe can't seem to let him go. I won't be including any spoilers in this film, and although I hadn't seen any trailers coming in, I still know what viewers will be surprised at... and they are awesome surprises!

The only negative notch I'd strike against the film is its foreshadowing, and how often they somewhat over explain a situation to make the next scene makes sense. There is nothing really figure out as most of the clues in the film become very clear... and I'm not even a big superhero fan. It is known that Cable is a main character in this film, and Josh Brolin plays him magnificently. You feel the pain of a man from the future, fighting for something so long out of his control. The wounds and weapons Cable possesses aren't delved into, but we can see that there will be backstory coming in the next series of X-Men films... or maybe a spin off.

There are a lot of easter eggs in this film, some more obvious than the others. The comedic timing is perfect in most instances, and there is definitely no political-correctness meter because Deadpool himself says things are somewhat surprising (to say the least). A few of the same backdrops are revisited throughout the film, and the placement of mutants and humans within the real world feels so real. It makes sense that mutants and humans can live together because the film almost creates that sense of segregation, and it's absolutely brilliant.

I'm giving Deadpool 2 a 9/10 because of how well it does its job. It isn't a perfect film by any means, and there is A LOT of computer generated effects, but it is so easy to get lost in the plot and truly care for the characters if not laugh with (or at) them. I won't give away any real spoilers, but the shenanigans Deadpool gets into while trying to recruit a team in this film are brilliant, and this series of events leads to one of the coolest chase scenes in cinematic history.

Brace yourself for a good time, and don't be surprised if you're both laughing and crying by the end of it.
