To put out has at least the following meanings:

A) To extinguish a fire or something burning

Example sentences:

  • Put out your cigarettes. We need to go.
  • There was a fire in the kitchen. I used the fire extinguisher to put it out.

B) To give sexual favours (of a woman)

Example sentences:

  • Sally is known for putting out easily.
  • It's not good to be seen as putting out too easily.

C) To place something outside

Example sentence:

  • Put those parts out when you are finished working on them. They smell of petrol.

D) To distribute something

Example sentence:

  • Putting out leaflets is one way to advertise.

That's a lot of very disparate meanings for a combination of such simple words. Gotta be very careful not to say B when you mean C.
