Animals that man killed until extinguished

in #english6 years ago

Wave friends welcome once again to a new post.
It is wonderful to know the amount of animal species that exist on our planet, but at the same time it is devastating to know that many of them have been destroyed by humans. Today I show you some animals that the man killed until extinguishing them ...

Dodo

The dodo bird is possibly the most recognized extinct animal in the world, it lived in the Mauritius Islands 900 kilometers from Madagascar. It was a bird unable to fly as it had adapted to terrestrial life, because on the island there were no natural predators and could leave their nests safely in the land, being a slow and easy to hunt animal was called dodo which means silly in Portuguese. The reason for its extinction was the uncontrolled hunting and the arrival of dogs and rats to the island that were brought by man. The rats destroyed the nests of the dodo and the dogs hunted the adults, only 80 years after the arrival of the man on the island in 1662 the dodo was observed alive for the last time. The only thing that remains of this species are bones that are exhibited in museums and that is the official shield of the Republic of Mauritius.

Migratory pigeon

It was such an abundant species in North America at least 5 billion. When they emigrated they were so many that they could darken the sky completely. With the arrival of colonies, this animal was seen as a cheap and easy-to-get food, so it was excessively married and in only 90 years the number of migratory pigeons dropped to 250,000, one day some hunters found the last specimens finishing with them in a single day the last female in captivity died alone in a zoo in Cincinnati and now you can see this latest specimen dissected in the smithsonian museum in Washington.

African black rhinoceros

This is one of the most recent species declared extinct, the African black rhino was hunted mainly by his body since it is said to have healing properties for many diseases, another reason and the most useless of all is that in Asia have a horn Rhinoceros is a symbol of power and well-being. Attempts to preserve the species were so many that the government of Africa sent an army of soldiers to take care of the rhinoceros and to make sure that no one caught the last specimens. Unfortunately efforts were not enough and the African black rhinoceros was declared extinct in 2011.

Java tiger

Source

This tiger was a feline species that only lived on the island of java. The coat of this tiger was so beautiful that its demand was very large and very well paid, the uncontrollable hunting of this animal made that in less than 30 years there were only 35 copies of this in the whole island. In 1972 the government declared the area where there were still specimens as a protected area, but it was too late and in 1979 the last tiger was cowardly hunted and in this way we ended up with another species that we will never see again.

Steller's sea cow

Source

It was discovered in 1741. This species, on average, measured 8 meters and weighed up to 10 tons, was very similar to walruses and manatees, it fed on algae, plants and marine moss, which made it an inoffensive animal that did not threaten the breed. human The reason for its extinction was the human demand of its face, fat and skin of great quality and in only 27 years the steller's sea cow ceased to exist, it is very sad to know how much damage human beings can do in such a short time.

Giant moa

Source

A native New Zealand bird that stands up to three meters tall and weighed up to 250kg and its eggs weighed up to 10kg. This species had been in the ground for more than 90 million years; this is how the human being hunted and annihilated one of the oldest species of our planet in a matter of years, the Maori tribe were the first to know the giant moa and they dedicated themselves to hunting it without control as food thanks to its abundant meat and easy capture, finally ceased to exist in the year 1500.

This is one more example of the destructive power that humanity has had for many years, if we did not have the fortune of knowing physically some of these wonderful species it is our duty and right to know that they existed and what happened to us we can not repeat the same mistake , since we currently have many species in danger of extinction and it is our human duty to protect them, it is time to show that we are not all destructive beings, we are not the owners of the planet since we are here to live in harmony with all the living beings that they inhabit. It is time for a change, we must become aware of our actions and the impact it causes on nature.
This was all for today we read in an upcoming blog
