Fun Facts - the oldest tree in the world

The oldest tree in the world, a spruce of 9,550 years dating from the ice age, is found in the province of Dalarna, Sweden. Norway lonely spruce, which belongs to the species that Traditionally used to decorate European houses during Christmas, represents the oldest living plant identified on the planet.

The visible part of the tree, four meters high, is about 600 years old, but its root system has a state of approximately 9,550 years. This is what Leif Kullman, professor in the department of ecology and environmental sciences at the University of Umeå in Sweden and director of the research.

El árbol más antiguo del mundo, una pícea de 9.550 años que data de la era glacial, que se encuentra en la provincia de Dalarna, en Suecia. La pícea solitaria de Noruega, que pertenece a la especie que tradicionalmente se usa para decorar las casas europeas durante Navidad, representa la planta viva más antigua identificada en el planeta.

La parte visible del árbol, de cuatro metros de altura, tiene alrededor de unos 600 años, pero su sistema de raíces ha estado creciendo por unos 9.550 años. Así lo asegura Leif Kullman, profesor del departamento de ecología y ciencia ambiental de la Universidad de Umeå en Suecia y director de la investigación.
