And we continue with the trips ... Castles of Guayana, place full of history

in #english7 years ago (edited)
On this occasion, it is a pleasure for me to tell you about a trip I made to the castles of Guayana as a family, another unique experience, where your mind takes you to imagine that moment of history of a struggle for the independence of our country. It was impressive to see how preserved they are, that after so many years, the structure of the castles remains so intact and suitable for visits and explorations.

They are two Castles that are very close to each other and were built on huge stones and well entered, are named as: the Castle San Francisco de Asis and the Castle of San Diego de Alcalá, whose names were later changed by General Joaquín Crespo on January 5, 1895 to: Fuerte Villapol and Fuerte Campo Elías respectively.

The Fuerte Villapol

The first castle we visited was El Fuerte Villapol, this was the first one to be built between 1676 and 1682, and it was during the government of Tiburcio de Aspe Zúñiga, Governor. It is very close to the river at the foot of Cerro Padrastro. This building was built on top of gigantic rocks, is quite tall and is approximately 120 feet in length. It has 3 large rooms, which one was for weapons, one for the assistant and the other for teams. Its old name was because it was built where before was the convent of San Francisco de Asis. When I arrived, what most amazed me was to see the nature that it houses, the imposing Orinoco River is what steals the most attention.

Immediately we went to the Fuerte Campo Elías was built a few years later in 1734 and its elaboration took 13 years to finish, so it began in the mandate of Governor Juan de Dios Valdez and culminated in the mandate of Colonel Diego de Tabares . This is a little further from the river, and served as a support and complement for the Fort Villapol. Although to get there you have to climb more, it's worth it because the vegetation that is in sight is to be admired.

The locals told us that at some point they wanted to make a union of both forts through a tunnel or some architecture of that nature, but it was impossible due to the hardness of the stones and rocks that characterize the Guayanés Massif.

I really enjoy this touristic site, the crossing, the vegetation, the imposing Orinco river, I hope to return in the not too distant future.

Mi #Venezuela there are still many places to admire you
