The Guavas

The protagonist of my publication will be this small Guava that grows, it is worth the redundancy in the guava tree that I have in my house.

Look at that guava radiant and happy because I dedicate a special publication to her, she feels like a new protagonist -laughs-.

Why did I decide to talk about guava? Easy, it is my favorite fruit, not only because of its flavor or because it is the best juice of life, but thanks to that it makes my typical and favorite sweet is obviously the guava snack ♥.

The Guava in Venezuela

Venezuela, is a privileged country because of its location in the Caribbean, because it has fertile and abundant land that allows all kinds of native crops and much of the world. Such is the case of guava, a tropical fruit that is among the ten most popular on a national scale, and develops wild in the warm, sunny areas of the north of the country.

This fruit is consumed throughout the national territory, since it adapts easily to any terrain and climatic condition. Its name comes from the Greek and means "granado", for the apparent similarity of the fruits, and specifically it is the denomination with which the natives knew the guava ("Psidium guajava"), one of the fruit trees most known and cultivated in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, which grows wild in almost all of America.

The high nutritional value and properties of this fruit makes it one of the most important in the daily diet, since it contains calcium, phosphorus and vitamins C, B and A. For every 100 grams there are around 0.5 gr of substances antioxidants, according to a study conducted in India, proportion that is three times higher than other fruits.

Guava is excellent for stabilizing digestive and intestinal processes, since it has a high fiber content. It works as a natural laxative, favoring the excretion and cleaning of the intestinal system. If its leaves are eaten raw, as a vegetable, dysentery and diarrhea are reduced.

Additionally, due to its high content of vitamin C, it intervenes in the formation of collagen, bones and teeth, red blood cells, favors the absorption of iron from food and resistance to infections, even more than lemon, orange or grapefruit. , because it is estimated that on average 100 grams of guava contains more than 291 milligrams of this vitamin, in the form of ascorbic acid, a sufficient dose to cover the 60mg daily that an adult needs.

The guava also contributes to a lesser extent other B vitamins such as thiamine (B1), indispensable in the use of carbohydrates and proteins, and the proper functioning of the nervous system; riboflavin (B2), essential compound for tissues to use oxygen properly as a fuel, and niacin (B3), necessary for tissues to metabolize carbohydrates and proteins efficiently to produce energy.

It also contains provitamin A (carotenes), which favors the preservation of eyesight and is necessary so that skin tissues can grow and regenerate normally, and intervenes in the maintenance of the immune system.

Ingredients

  • 1kg of guava pulp
  • 1kg of white sugar
  • 1 cup of orange juice

Preparation

  • Choose the most ripe and prettiest guavas you can find to release more flavor and texture. Wash and peel them carefully.

  • In a large pot put them to boil over high heat 30 minutes or until they are well cooked and soft.

  • Take the fruits out of the water and liquefy them for a few seconds, allowing the seeds to remain almost intact, because if you let them liquefy for a long time, a bitter taste can be released. Pass them through a sieve and add the juice of the orange and sugar.

  • Pour the mixture into a pot and bring to medium heat until it begins to boil and release foam. Mix constantly until it starts to become more transparent and bright.

  • Place the preparation in a container and wait for it to cool to cut and enjoy with your family.
