Working at home - Power Source Repair
Hello dear steemians, continuing with the repair of the cpu that they brought to my house, of which I made a post recently to which you can have a look Here.
This time I will teach you to repair a source of power, before starting the repair I want to give you a short introduction based on my own experience, in some cases when the power source does not turn on it is necessary to check with a digital multimeter or similar the different components of the source, we must first connect the source to the current and with the multimeter in the 20 DCV (Direct Current Voltage) scale the black tip that is ground we will place it in any of the black wires of the source output, and the red tip will be placed in the purple wire that is in the connector of 20 or 24 pins of the voltage output of the source, should give us about 5 volts more or less.
If you give us this voltage the repair can be less tedious, since it can be said that the source is receiving voltage correctly but for some other problem in one or several of its components is not starting, disconnect and proceed to uncover the source, a Once the lid is removed we make a visual inspection to see if we find any component burned, swollen or burst capacitors.
Once the visual inspection is done we proceed to remove the screws that hold the card from the source and we must discharge the large capacitors from the source, then we will verify if there are no loose or broken solders (also known as cold welding), with the multimeter in the scale of continuity or beep we will begin to test the diodes, transistors, double diodes (have the form of transistors) and resistors, there is a way to test the transistors and double diodes without disassembling them from the card but they will be explained in another post.
In this case it is a simple problem since you only have to change some condensers that are inflated so that the source works correctly, and solder the tips of the fan cooler since they are tied and wrapped with cloth (I am not in favor of doing this, the cloth over time loses its grip and loosens can cause short circuits), when I get another source with another different fault I will post repair.
To change the capacitors we need the following tools:
.-Cautin.
.-Desoldering.
.-Flux to desolder.
.-Tin.
.-Capacitors to replace.
The first step we will do is to identify the capacitors to change, we will place a little flux in each of its legs, with the soldering iron we will heat the pins and with the pacifier we will absorb the tin, in this way we can remove the capacitor easier (in the pc motherboards is not advisable to use the pacifier or desoldador), before removing the component we must see to which side is the negative strip of it since many sources do not bring the identification of how to place the capacitor.
Once removed we present the new capacitor, hold it with one hand and with the other we will place a point of tin and then rectify the solder on both pins of the capacitor, once finished with the first proceed to change the other components one by one. I changed the capacitors very fast, then proceeded to assemble it to test it.
Well friends up to here the repair of this power source of pc, I wait for you in a next occasion.
