[Cervantes Magazine - Vol. 13]

Greetings, Steemit community, continuing with the talk about anger, and because it’s very relevant to talk about a mental state that is often presented both casually and in the competitive environment of eSports, the topic that will be addressed this week is about handling the Tilt.

To quote an article titled: The level of play to avoid in eSports: What is the tilt and how to get out of it? (spanish): "While the concept is used in poker, in reality its origin comes from pinball machines. The frustration of seeing the ball following an unwanted path, leads the player to move or tilt the machine, trying to orient the ball. However, many of these machines can detect such "cheat", displaying the word "tilt" on their screen and switching off to avoid this strategy".

The symptoms that Tilt generates can also be experienced by gamers after having gone through exhaustive gaming sessions for days or simply because of the person’s mood, which combined with certain particular factors can trigger this problem.

The Tilt is generated when the person enters a mental state of confusion, anger and frustration when certain unfavorable situations are generated in the game, things like losing a match, Missplays (Bad Playing), offensive attitudes from a rival, mockery from spectators (In case of being in a competition) and other actions that cause a mental imbalance in the person and therefore, the gamer who enters this state, will not make optimal moves to ensure a good handling of the game and will be, as some people say "Dying of anger", prone to be manipulated to lose constantly.

Although it is frowned upon in the Gamer community, during important confrontations a kind of mental game can be played with the Rival to try and induce him into this state, things like Laughing at bad plays, Spamming Mock Emoticons, Making derogatory comments and other unsportsmanlike attitudes that can be subtly camouflaged and ignored by the public and the judges, but not by the person to whom this offense is directed.

How to avoid Tilting?

In the competitive field, players should be prepared mentally to be able to apply blockages in their minds once they are experiencing this state, because regardless of the physical and mental condition of the person, we are ALL prone to suffer the Tilt, so we should try to lessen its effects on the performance of the game.

In a casual level, for a Gamer who starts to detect this problem, you can try the following:

  1. Stop playing video games and rest between 10 to 30 minutes, away from anything electronic or that resembles it (it is not advisable to stop playing and go to watch TV or chat as it is not really resting).
  2. Sleeping or hanging out for a while is a good option to clear the mind.
  3. Or simply stop playing at that moment and continue the journey the next day.

If the person avoids these recommendations, when it begins to detect the possible Tilt, the consequences can be disastrous, an example of that is the following:

Man breaks his computer ̿ '̿' \ ̵͇̿̿ \ з = (• ̪ ●) = ε / ̵͇̿̿ / '̿'̿ with many effects !! - The Five Masters

You have to know how to accept defeat when it becomes more than evident and stop insisting on playing something when the "Head is Hot", the difference between a professional player and a cocky novice, is how you can have control of your physical and mental capacity, recognize when you must step aside to improve and finally learn from your past mistakes to polish your strategies for future victories.

Our magazine thanks you for taking the time to read this Post, we hope that this information has been useful and we suggest you keep an eye on the next publication, since there is still more material to cut on the subject of Cryptocurrencies and The World of videogames.
