The reason for dissatisfaction

in #english7 years ago

We all know someone who seems to be always dissatisfied, for whom life never seems to fulfill their expectations, people to whom the word EVERYTHING is LITTLE. If, in addition, that person is ourselves, we will also know that this chronic dissatisfaction is accompanied by an important range of negative emotions, in which the sadness, which is the protagonist, comes escorted by her sisters-cousins: anxiety and irritability.

Dissatisfaction is a feeling that appears when the things we have or have achieved do not seem sufficient or do not cover our expectations by themselves. All people suffer in some way or another from a feeling of 'healthy' dissatisfaction, which helps us to keep looking, to try to be better each time, and to progress in our hierarchy of priorities, in search of self-realization. Therefore, from this perspective, dissatisfaction is a good and necessary emotion, which drives us towards personal growth.

However, some people, far from expressing a specific feeling of dissatisfaction provoked by a certain event, something natural that we have all experienced at some time, present high levels of chronic dissatisfaction, which are maintained at different times of their lives, interfering with significant way in all aspects of it.

Mood problems such as depressive disorder are the most frequent cause of chronic dissatisfaction; but there can be a chronic dissatisfaction without the presence of depression in those cases in which the person does not feel fulfilled, or considers that what happens in his life does not pursue any specific goal, either because she herself does not agree to establish it, or because other people or circumstances prevent you from getting it. In the first case, dissatisfaction occurs with high levels of frustration, sadness and apathy, while, in the second case, it is anger that takes the hand of dissatisfaction to make the task more complicated to those who suffer it.

Finally, there are people for whom dissatisfaction is not always present, but appears shortly after achieving their goal. This fact, which may seem contradictory, usually occurs in people who have a pronounced sensation-seeking feature and who, therefore, quickly 'tire out' of their achievements, and lose interest in them. It also happens in those cases in which the goals have been too easy to achieve so, once achieved, lose interest.
