DEFORESTATION PERUVIAN AMAZON

Today I want to present a very sensitive issue about the deforestation of a part of the Amazon jungle in Peru, the Peruvian Amazon covers a total of 78'282,060 hectares of which 1,415,595 hectares have been deforested and of that total only 25% corresponds to areas where there are Indigenous Territories (IT) and Natural Protected Areas (ANP).

The conservation of Amazonian forests in Peru requires efforts to improve the management of indigenous territories and protected natural areas are articulated to initiatives that seek a paradigm shift in the national development model

To graph, on football days, there are 61,640 stadiums. Until August 17, this year, Peru has lost some 45,000 hectares of Amazonian forests. The figures are from the most recent report of the Andean Amazon Monitoring Project (MAAP, for its acronym in English). In relation to the last monthly observation, new sensitive points of deforestation were detected in Madre de Dios and Ucayali.

Illegal logging tends to be selective, focusing on species of commercial interest. Most of the wood sold in Peru does not come from managed forests and ends in all the constructions and furniture that are made in all of Peru. There is also wood that is exported. There are more regulations to comply with the rules, but there are also reports that some of the wood is bleached along the way.
