Remember and live the magnificent curiosities. Statue of Liberty!!!

in #english7 years ago

It is nice to remember and know the wonderful history, and a little about its wonders and curiosities. What better scenario to make history than: STATUE OF LIBERTY.

 The celebrated statue, whose original name is Freedom illuminating the world, The monument was a gift of the French people to the American people on the occasion of the centennial celebration of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. A history full of economic problems and diverse solutions (alliances, donations, lotteries), this story has other curious details that make the statue of freedom much more than a gift, is the result of a great effort by many people.

 The monument traveled by the Atlantic in 350 pieces distributed in 214 crates of packaging (previously had been transferred from Paris to Ruan by train)

  It took four years for the project to begin to take shape. Bartholdi began work in 1870 and the first thing he did was to decide his design and his place of implantation, for which he traveled to the USA, where he spotted the place in New York: Bedloe Island , now Liberty Island (Island of Liberty).

To better understand your choice, there is nothing better than a quote from Bartholdi himself:

  "The port of New York is the perfect place because it is where people get their first view of the New World." And referring to the exact location: "I have found an admirable point is the island of Bedloe, in the center of The bay ... is, as it were, the gateway to the United States "

  that day: "Do not forget that freedom has made your home here ..."

 It is fascinating to know about the curiosities of On October 28, 1886, the Statue of Liberty was inaugurated in New York by its creator, FA Bartholdi . The day was declared festive and in spite of the rain and the fog, more than a million people took to the streets of New York to celebrate it.

 President Cleveland's words show the American sentiment since the Statue of Liberty, here I mention some of them;

 - Seven-Ray Crown: The crown of the lady has seven rays and t 25 windows. It is said to represent the seven continents and seven oceans of the world. But in reality the peaks are rays of sun and the circle and sun halo which in art is called nimbus.

-   The statue moves: When the wind blows strong, the statue tilts about 8 centimeters. The torch does about 12 centimeters.

-   The torch can not be visited: It can not be done since July 30, 1916. It was because of the explosion in a warehouse that sent abundant shrapnel to the arm of the statue, cutting off the passage.

-   Book: The book that holds the Statue of Liberty has the date of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, July 4, 1776, in Roman numerals.

-  Face of the statue: They say that it was modeled on the mother of the sculptor, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.

-   Weight of the statue: Thirty-one tons of copper, 125 steel and 127 concrete.

-  June 17, 1885: That was the day he arrived in New York after a sea voyage in appalling conditions. It was a gift from France to the United States.

 I hope you have liked them, I accept suggestions and recommendations for improvement.
