English literature: what is the meaning of literature?

Literature is not just something written in pages. It is much more than that . It is not more than life but it is the reflection of life. When someone start to know about literature and start to study literature, it becomes a source of joy. A little book has some appeal to the ear and and a noble book has appeal to the heart. Through literature we can discover a new world. A world which is so different from our current world. Literature is a place of dream and magic. It is also a place where life is represented. One can enter ,read and enjoy literature or one can analyze and explain it to others . Both ar equally important.

With out teacher,writers there is no literature and without reader it is also worthless. There is a saying “behind every book there is a man, behind the man is the race; and behind the race are the natural and social environments whose influence is unconsciously reflected”.

We have to understand as well as we want to enjoy the beauty. So what is the real meaning of literature? It can not be said in a word, or in a sentence or in sentences. Since the perfect definition is impossible , so , I guess we have to determine some of the essential qualities of literature at first.

We do always think of living life like a king or like a queen. But we can’t do that always. In our life there is some restriction. Sometimes we want to go beyond the horizon but we can’t. Sometimes literature helps us to escape from the reality. But sometime it itself is a reality. So to know literature best, we have to know what are those qualities which is essential for literature.
