NASA Test Sperm Reproduction in Outer Space
Basically humans are created through a lump of sperm in which it happens on Earth. However, the US space agency (NASA) is experimenting with sending human sperm into space.
The sperm has been sent utilizing the Dragon capsule with the boost of the SpaceX-made Falcon 9 rocket. The launch took place at Cape Canaveral Air Forece, Florida, United States, not long ago.
Carrying a sperm charge into space is a Micro-11 mission.
Dragon carrying human sperm and also the bull to the International Space Station (ISS). These sperm are carried in normal condition.
Astronauts in the ISS will dilute the sperm and test how well the human and bull sperm functions, especially regarding the ability of sperm to penetrate the egg cell wall while in a vacuum. This process was recorded to know every movement of sperm.
The next stage, the sperm sample will be sent back to Earth. Later, conducted a comparison between the sperm from outer space and sperm on Earth.
Bull sperm was chosen for this study because the sperm movement of the bull has similarities to human sperm. Therefore, bull sperm is used as a quality control that will be compared with human sperm.
"We do not yet know how this space mission can affect human reproductive health, and this investigation will be the first step in understanding the possibility of reproduction under low-gravity conditions," NASA said in a statement.
For information, the charge of sperm that was brought into space is not the first time. Previously there have been several species that successfully declared breeding in a vacuum, such as frogs, sea urchins, jellyfish, snails to fish fish.
