System of Shear Wall Structures in Tall Buildings

Hello Stemians..
If you have worked or have work experience in high rise building or building project of course already know and understand the meaning of shear wall. In this article will be discussed about the definition and function of the shear wall in high buildings.
Shear wall or better known as shear wall is a reinforced concrete wall structure element that serves to withstand shear forces, lateral forces caused by earthquakes or other styles in high rise buildings and buildings. This shear wall there are various types in the building include bearing wall, frame wall, and core wall. The definition of shear wall can be described as follows.

- Bearing wall
Bearing wall or wall structure is a wall that sustains the load that is on it and channeled it to the foundation of the structure. Materials commonly used to build bearing walls in large buildings are concrete, wood and bricks.

- Frame wall
a structure in which the lateral resistance is borne by a combination of rigid frames and shear walls categorized as wall frame structures. Due to lateral load, the wall will deform in flexural or bending mode and the rigid frame will deform in shear mode. because rigid frame and shear wall behave differently it will arise interaction on the system structure

- Core wall
core wall is a linear supporting wall system suitable for high-rise buildings whose fixed function and utility functions also serve to meet the lateral stiffness required by the building structure. And in the construction applications in the field we can recognize the core wall structure as the structure of elevator space, shaft or service duct. The core wall structure is also usually placed extending the direction of the height of the building. As an illustration, the core wall can be imagined as a lateral retaining that is similar to a large beam that cantilver from the ground. Therefore the shear and bending stress acting on the core wall resembles a square-bearing beam, assuming that the structure will be able to withstand the forces acting on it and will not collapse. Since this nucleus also carries the burden of gravity, its advantage is arising prestressed by induction forces so that the nucleus does not need to be designed to withstand tensile stresses caused by lateral loads (this is particularly true of large concrete core structures).
The location of the shear wall of the building depends on several factors such as the level of building symmetry, the height of the building, and the assumption of the planner. The determination of the location and calculation of the shear wall is of course done by the structural planner with the fundamentals of strong planning. Shear wall in building usually use concrete quality above Fc 30 Mpa.
The two main functions of the shear wall are as strength and as stiffener. Shear wall is expected to hold all loads such as shear load, lateral, and so on. While the shear wall function as a stiffener is to resist the wobble that occurs in buildings due to earthquakes so that all elements of the structure have the same level of rigidity. If there is one element of the structure that is not rigid then there will be a degree of damage to the entire building.
The picture step shear wall workmanship include:
- Fabrication of wall shear wall.
- Installation of vertical reinforced cast with the bottom floor plate.
- Installation of horizontal reinforcement, tie with bendrat.
- For the basement area please be given a waterstop to prevent water from entering.
- Installation of formwork on two outer sides. In formwork cultivated using as drat to lock the two formwork to avoid the pregnant concrete.
- Cor concrete with ready mix
- Unloading form work
Conclusion
Element shear wall has a meaning that is almost the same as other structural elements that is to withstand the style that works on buildings. So far the use of shear wall is more widely used in high rise building buildings because the higher the building the greater the force of the earthquake that works.

I'm mostly curating in #science and am always glad to see quality posts like yours peeking out between the garbage and plagiarism!
But I highly recommend not just using Wikipedia as reference source in the future 😉
Thank you @suesa for letting me know about this great news, I am very willing to be part of you.
but I do not yet fully understand about OCD team, so I hope your suggestions and support.
and the source in the next post I tried to find more sources to strengthen about the contents of my article.
once again thanks a lot for this great news.
The OCD team promotes good posts that are found by the team members.
Now that I have your consent, I will share the link to your post with the other members. If they agree with me that we should support you, your post will be featured in our compilation tomorrow and receive an upvote to about $20.
If you're not chosen by the others, I might try to nominate you another time with a different post.
I hope it's clearer now what the project is about :)
Thanks for the explanation, I am very happy and very appreciative of this opportunity. hopefully all this as expected
and for once again thank you so much @suesa
Hi, writing 'wikipedia' 3 times is not considered valid referencing.
Articles that are translated are also not accepted in the steemstem curation efforts.
okay thanks for the advice @mobbs
for the next post I will use many reference sources to strengthen my article.
is there any chance for me ?
Well, we at steemSTEM are very strict with our chosen posts. All I can say is that we will see each post individually and decide then =P Good luck!
thank you so much @mobbs
I will try my best
According to you, my article is lacking in what way?
so I can correct it for better :))
The only reason I know about shear walls is trying to get construction permits for my boyfriend's brother's condo! They kept asking "Is that a shear wall?" and we didn't know how to prove it wasn't. Not I understand a lot more about it, thanks!
I am also still learning about the science of construction on my campus, because construction science in the design of a building is very broad and we must plan as much as possible.
thank you for comment @therovingreader
