The difference between an architect and a civil engineer

Greetings, how are you steemit friends? Hopefully still the spirit always. Since my college until today there are still many friends even at the level of ordinary people who ask what the differences of architect and civil engineering.

In this discussion I will write about the introduction of basic architect, civil engineering and the difference.


ARCHITECTURE


According to Wikipedia, architecture is the art that everyone does for imagination and science in designing buildings. In general, the scope of architecture covers the stages of designing and building the built environment either in macro coverage (urban planning, landscape) to micro (building design, furniture and products).


SCOPE


In keeping with the oldest written source of Vitruvius in his book "De Architectura" a good building must have aesthetics, strength and function, these three aspects are balancing, but in the modern definition, architecture has functional, aesthetic and psychological considerations.

Architecture includes the science of mathematics, science, art, technology, humanities, politics, history, philosophy and so on, the quotation Vitruvius still used is "Architecture is a science arising from other sciences and equipped with learning process, assisted with an assessment of the work as a work of art ", he also added that an architect should be fluent in the fields of music, astronomy and others. The main science as an architectural approach is philosophy such as rationalism, empiricism, phenomenology, structuralism, post-structuralism and deconstructivism.


HISTORY


Based on the need and the way hence the understanding of architecture, since the primitive civilization era the dynamics of the architecture has evolved, in the next stage as humans begin to advance and knowledge is growing, the understanding of the architecture becomes a skill and continues to evolve in accordance with the times.

Before the industrial architecture revolution was tested in several stages of development, such as the classical and medieval periods in which professional associations formed by skilled craftsmen had important roles, they constructed buildings and so forth but they were not individual architects.

At the time of enlightenment, the emphasis on the individual and the humanities became more important than religion, this process became the beginning of a new civilization in architecture but there was no clear deliberation between artists, architects and engineers.

When the development of science and knowledge as well as the emergence of new building materials and technology, an architect shifts his focus from the technical aspect of being aesthetic.

The period of industrial revolution confirms that aesthetics are a measure that can be achieved by the middle class.

Disenchantment of such a partial situation was born the thinkers who became the basis of modern architecture, until the Bauhaus school (German 1919) broke the chain of history and chose to see architecture as a sentiment of art, skill and technology.

Because of the lack of meaning, sterility, badness, uniform and psychological negative effects arising from the movement of modern architecture led to the general public finally gradually reject the presence of this architecture. The answer to the needs of the community makes the architectural thinkers have to drain the brain until it was born a style in the world of architecture, the post-modern architecture.

ARCHITECTURE CONCLUSIONS


Building and built area is a visible visualization that will continue to grow in accordance with its function and role in answering the challenges of the times, and in that stage architects have an important role in shaping the image of a nation or community, but many we meet in developing countries still designed by the community itself or artisans.

Finally, the expertise of architects is only needed when the construction of the type of house or building that has important cultural / political significance.

Architecture itself is a science that has a scope of various sciences, the fundamental scope of architecture is the art and technical so more emphasis on the design results and the impacts of the design.


CIVIL ENGINEERING


Civil engineering is a branch of engineering that studies how to design, build, renovate but also cover the environment and human well-being.

The scope of civil engineering sciences include, mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, environment and computers. The development of civil engineering is in line with human needs. This science can turn a forest into a city.


DISTRIBUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERING SCIENCE


  • Structurally, this branch learns all the structural spheres ranging from materials used and work techniques, properties of different material characteristics so that this science will study and decide what materials are appropriate to the needs.
  • Geotechnics, branches that study structures as well as various properties of soil and rocks to decide whether the soil and the rock can sustain such buildings.
  • Construction management, this branch deals with economics especially in construction projects, this science will schedule work, payback of capital to various problems related to local regulations and organizing work field in the hope of the work can be completed on time.
  • Hydrology, this branch focuses on water knowledge, distribution, control and problems.
  • Environmental engineering, branches that study issues and environmental issues, this field includes the provision of clean water facilities and infrastructure and so forth.
  • Transportation, branches that study the transportation system in working and planning, the scope of this science, among others, airport construction, terminal and others.
  • Informatics of civil engineering, this branch is present to study the application of computers for the calculation of a system in a development or research project.

CONCEPT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING


Civil engineering engineers not only deal with the construction of a structural and infrastructure project but have a wider scope to connect with informatics that allows building a model with the help of CAD applications, modeling the impact of earthquakes and floods, the role of civil engineering engineers has not been completed despite the building stage has been completed because there is still time to maintain the facility of the building until a certain time limit.

CONCLUSIONS OF DIFFERENT ARCHITECTURE AND CIVIL ENGINEERING


Architecture has a long historical background in accordance with human civilization to date, as well as civil engineering so that architecture and civil has a mutually filling relationship in construction work.

Architecture and civil engineering are closely related to building construction and so forth, but the most fundamental difference is in the initial process of work until the work is completed, the architecture emphasizes the understanding of design planning in accordance with the humane and aesthetic principles, while civil engineering is more focused on the structure encompasses environmental issues and calculations of all aspects up to a building that is strong against natural conditions, cheap and has no negative impact on the environment.

There are significant differences in some countries, such as civil engineering that is categorized including technical and architectural schools that have their own art schools, so there are some minority opinions that suggest that architects are not engineering. Finally depends on the understanding of the individual itself.

this theme its important, too much people think that civil engineering its only about structures. I agree with your point: the civil engineering takes care the ambient conditions and the practical criteria in the builds, like resources and optimization of spaces. And specially on this last point, the architect plays an important. I love architecture because it makes the magic of the beauty of the builds, but it not stop there, the architect makes too much.
