Gearbox Maintenance

Gearbox is one form of application of the gears where the gear is arranged into several stages / levels to produce the desired output of rotation or power.

Gearbox function:

• Change speed
• Changing the size of the Torque

Advantages of gearbox:

• Transmitted power can be adjusted by ratio
• Movement is not easy to slip
• Can accurately transmit power
• Can operate at a very high speed

Lack of gearbox:

• The gearbox requires maintenance in the form of lubrication
• The gearbox requires careful alignment
• The gearbox may produce a noisy sound

Problem and Cause in Gearbox
Failure in the gearbox can be divided into 2 parts:

1. Related to lubrication

• wrong lubrication selection
• contamination
• excessive heat
• lubricant condition

1. Associated with lubrication

• improper design
• installation error
• operation error
• alignment error
