I am very excited to write about a coin that I believe is going to speed up the process in creating a world that has fully adopted renewable energy.
Power Ledger is an Australian Block chain energy trading company and it has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Thai-Government backed renewable energy developer BCPG to bring peer-to-peer renewable energy trading to Thailand.
BCPG President Bundit Sapianchai said that the industry is moving from a centralized generation to a distributed energy model where Block chain technology will be crucial for the distribution. “This will help reduce the government’s investment in building large-scale power plants to meet the growing demand for electricity and at the same time offer customers and consumers a greater choice of electricity from renewable energy in the form of Peer-to-Peer energy trading. Our project covers diverse groups of participants, from housing units to malls, schools, hospitals, industrial estates, to name a few,” Sapianchai said. According to the terms of the agreement, the companies will collaborate on the formation of a micro grid development in Bangkok which will see between 6–10 multi-story apartment buildings trading between 1–2MW of embedded solar generation. Using the Power Ledger energy-trading platform, building managers will be able to trade renewable energy from solar panels installed on each building with autonomous financial settlement enabled via the use of a secure banking interface. “Renewable micro grid developments allow for the efficient installation and operation of generation capacity close to consumers, we’re really proud to be working with BCPG to bring this technology to South East Asia,” Power Ledger managing director, David Martin said. “The autonomous nature of the trading platform means it’s simple and low-cost and bringing this together with on-site generating capacity means energy can be low-cost, low-carbon and resilient to the impacts of severe weather conditions.” Power Ledger said that BCPG has already begun the task of selecting the Thai bank that will be the first to provide autonomous financial settlement for P2P energy transactions in Asia. In October, Power Ledger raised $34 million in an initial coin offering (ICO). It is also involved in a Block chain-powered distributed energy and water systems project in the City of Fremantle which has received government funding. I am hopeful that eventually most small communities around the world will get the opportunity to start making money off solar power and other renewable energy. It will definitely help stimulate economies and incentivize people to make the transition. Power ledger market cap has started at $77,526,500 when it hit most exchanges and has now jumped to $412,839,000 as of December 22, 2017. According to International Energy Agency In 2012, the world relied on renewable sources for around 13.2% of its total primary energy supply. In 2013 renewables accounted for almost 22% of global electricity generation, and the IEA Medium-Term Renewable Energy Report 2015 foresees that share reaching at least 26% increase in 2020. This could be a huge market share opportunity for Power Ledger.
Next year in the first quarter we will be able to see some distribution from Power Ledger. Early Application Hosts will be gifted POWR tokens to incentivize their use of and contribution to the Platform as well as complete the transition to a modified fee-less Consortium Ethereum network. I know there's a lot of Block chains that will change the world but I will be definitely be looking at this one closely. It would seem like the perfect opportunity to slow down global warming.
