Recent studies says Insects are Endangered species on earth

Everyday we study about many endangered animals and birds recognise by International Union Conservation of Nature (IUCN) but we rarely came across endangered Insects which are having a great importance in ecological balance. Human cannot survive without insects. Insects are most varied and abundant animals. They are Outweighing humanity by 17%. These insects are essential for ecosystem and are food for other creatures and polynators. They are good agent of recycling of nutrients. They pollinate plant species, keep the soil healthy, control pests, and much more. The recent studies has revealed that within 100 years these insects will be Vanish. Around 40% insects declined and one third are endangered. This may cause Catastrophic collapse of eco system. Many bird reptile and fishes eat insects these animal will starve to death without feeding them.

Study revealed that cascading effects have already seen in Puerto Rico where 98% fall in ground insects over 35years. The studies shows that the decline rate of insects are 8 times faster extinction than mammal, birds and reptiles. A Report from Germany has revealed that the extinction of insects is a global issue.

Recent analysis from experts says that Butterfly and moths worst hit species. Butterfly species fell by 58 %in farm land in England between 2000 to 2009. UK suffered biggest recorded insect fall. Though that is a result of being more intensly study. Seriously affected half of the bumblebee species found in Oklahoma in US between 1949 to present. Honeybee colony in US was 6 million in 1947 but 3.5 million have been lost since

Causes of extinction-

1. Intensive agriculture - elimination of all trees and shrubs that normally surrounded the field so there are plain bare field treated with fertilisers and pesticides.
2. Urbanisation - which leads to pollution, construction, Deforestation etc
3. Climate change- Greenhouse gas emmision is one of the major reason. Increase rate of carbon emmision will be devastating for human as well as other life form.

Small number of adaptable species are increasing in number but not enough to outweigh the big losses. "Always some species that take advantage of vaccum left by the extinction of other species". - said Francisco Sánchez-Bayo, at the University of Sydney, Australia.

In US common eastern bumblebee is increasing due to its tolerance of pesticides.

Important suggestions

Most of the studies analysed were done in Western Europe and the US with few ranging from Australia to China and Brazil to South Africa.different region face different environmental issues. It should require at international level to collect proper data, study local environmental issues and challenges and take appropriate measure to curtail the causes of declining.
