Understanding and Characteristics of Dragonfly
A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the 'Odonata' sequence. Capunga is not actually flying even though they both have six legs and three body parts, head, chest and abdomen. The main difference between them is that the fly has only two wings while the dragonfly has four wings. Dragonflies are sometimes confused with Damselflies. Although they are both members of the same order, they have little difference where when resting, the damselflies hold their wings together, the dragonfly holds its wings horizontally or slightly down and forward and their hindwings wider near the base. The eye on a damselfly separated, in most of the dragonfly eye touch. However, being in the same order makes their life cycle very similar. The name of the dragonfly comes from their fierce jaw, which they use to capture its prey. A dragonfly has two large compound eyes that take most of its head. Dragonflies have long, smooth, transparent membranous wings and some have a light yellow color near the tip. Their bodies are long and slender and they have short antennae.
Dragonflies are very colorful, for example the green dragonfly has a green head and a blue segmented stomach. Some are red like Comet and Yellow like Emerald drifter,Dragonflies through spiracles are small holes located in their stomachs. They can beat every pair of wings together or separately and their rear wings can get out of phase with the front wing. The wings beat them around 50-90 beats per second. Dragonflies have complicated neck muscles that allow them to tilt their heads to the side 180 degrees, returning 70 degrees and 40 degrees down.
