Last month we visited New Zealand and one of the highlights was definitely our hike up to Mount Cook. This giant is most of the times covered in clouds, but we were fortunate to see it in all its glory!
The night before it snowed and the whole trail was covered with snow and ice. We started our hike around 8.30am and when the sun came out it was a real wonderworld.
The trail leading towards Mount Cook is pretty easy accessible and took us about 3 hours. There are 3 swingbridges that you'll need to cross to get pass the river. Around every corner there is a new amazing view waiting for you and your camera.
The night before going to Mount Cook we stayed at a free campground at the bottom of Lake Pukaki. This place offers great views of the lake, the surrounding mountains and in the distance Mount Cook. Waking up at sunrise near this lake gave us one of the best views ever.
Even the ride up to the beginning of the hiking trail is amazing. You'll pass through an amazing landscape with snow covered mountains on your left, an ice blue lake to your right and even more beauty in front of you. A perfect route to take some awesome shots.
We really enjoyed our time at Mount Cook and to us it is one of the most beautiful things we have seen in New Zealand. We really recommend this hike if you are heading to New Zealand.
