Yes welcome! Bounce around and learn from tutorials before you do your first post.. Here's some things I wish I'd known :
You cannot edit a post after 24 hours (called "the first payout" here).
You might make over $1,000 on your Introduce Yourself post, so STUDY Steemit awhile and do it right. you won't get a second chance.
While good FAQs are still being formed, almost every question you'll have right off can be answered via a Google search. You might have to add the word Steemit to your question, and pay attention to the date of the answer, as everything is changing right now.
I'm following you now and will try to watch for/upvote your early posts as I see them in my feed to help you out. By the way, with the new rules, you have virtually no "power" right now so might find posting and voting difficult at first (as my real life friends new this week are experiencing). It's largely to put the kibosh on spammers and spammers.
What you CAN do now, is follow people (and you should - go to the lists of people you like and check out and maybe follow whom they do at first, as doing so will populate your feed) and you can also comment, as you just learned. Commenting and upvoting will increase both your "power" and your reputation score. These are essential for attracting followers yourself, who might eventually upvote you and your comments, thus giving you the influence you need to post, upvote, etc.
Have fun! Steemit is hard to understand at forst and very easy to ovethink. If you're not having fun and making great personal connections via commenting, you're not doing it right. Don't try to make money at first or yuo will lose focus and burn out. It's a social network - so be social!
