Libertarians celebrate Musk taking over on Twitter - Here's why.

In case anyone is still confused about why libertarians are celebrating this, it's because illiberals have had an oligopoly in social media for years.

The difference is that we're not celebrating the prospect of Twitter becoming a libertarian echo chamber to compete with your echo chambers. No, we're celebrating that a person made an entrepreneurial move that will defend liberal (and all) values on a powerful platform.

Musk took government loans to start his company because the government was giving them out cheaply. He paid them back. This is the reality of working within crony capitalism.

The Kochs are libertarians and they take the taxes breaks and subsides that their competitors do because, if they didn't, they'd be run out by people who agree with what the state is doing.

I don't have to agree with Musk on everything to see the forest for the trees.

  1. Jack Dorsey doesn't have a Bachelor's degree.
  2. Why does it matter?
  3. You're implying that Twitter is and was an entity that we need to trust with the future of our democracy. So, you're not against a big corporation having that power. You're worried about a corporation in the hands of somebody who will let your opponents speak have that power.
