Trial by Comics contest - a Chinese dragon
Hello, friends!
This is my work for for the Trial by Comics contest, organized by @kommienezuspadt . The new theme on this contest is “Mythology”.
Many Nations have legends about mythical dragons. Even in Slavic mythology there is a dragon-"Zmey Gorynych" (Mountain snake). It has three heads and seven tails. But I decided to draw a Chinese dragon, because I am fond of Chinese culture and art. In Chinese culture the dragon is a symbol of good, in contrast to European dragons. Dragons are peaceful, if they are not angry.
The Chinese dragon has antlers - like a deer, head-like a camel, eyes-like a demon, neck – like a snake, it – like a mollusk, scales – like a carp, claws – like an eagle, soles – like a tiger, ears-like a bull. Some Chinese dragons have wings. The dragon was the king of animals and a symbol of Imperial power.
China has many myths, the main character of which are dragons. There are also myths where there are two mythical creatures - dragon and Phoenix. This myth is associated with the Dragon and Phoenix fighting over the pearl.
Process
I used Chinese materials-rice paper, Chinese ink and Chinese paints
I painted a sketch of the dragon with a thin brush with gray ink.
I like to paint texture with black ink. Then I did the texture on the horns of a dragon.
Then I began to paint the dragon's mane, and added color to his eyes, as well as the ball.
I spent a lot of time coloring dragon scales. Sometimes she'd throw it and paint other parts of her body and then come back to it again.
I mixed blue and black ink so that the color of the water was not bright. And painted part of the wave.
And here I was painting a powerful table of water that spews dragon from his mouth. It is so powerful that it twists into a whirlpool of water. I wet the rice paper and began to paint the circles to look like a whirlpool.
At the last stage, I added red flashes to the dragon's body, and also slightly toned his entire body in light gray.

Wonderful chinese dragon drawing !!! I love the details of the scales, the fins, the pose and expression of the dragon !! The step by step is also presented well and the colours are very nice <3

This looks like an old Chinese painting, Veta. I really like how you created the dragon, because it looks like a design that I have seen often on Chinese plates and cups.

@scrawly Yes, these dragons are very recognizable to the audience. I think because they are often portrayed in various subjects. I remember in my childhood were popular men's jackets from China, which on the back was embroidery with dragons ))
