"Poor man's snack"
Hello everybody! I drew new work for the my collection "Poor man's and rich man's food."
I drew objects that were an integral part of the snacks of ordinary people: Opaque decanter, zucchini, cucumber, onion and garlic.
Decanter was brought to European countries from the East
It was used for short-term storage or serving wine and water.
Zucchini were brought to Europe, when the colonization of America began. Here started where their cultivation began.
Onions and garlic were integral part of the diet of poor people.
It was believed that Garlic helps with headache and is an antidote with snake bites.
Those who could not afford a lot of rare and expensive components for the preparation of antidote, was recommended just eat raw garlic
This vegetable was considered a good remedy for the prevention of plague.
Representatives of the lower classes used onion for cooking food . It was added to various sauces, broths and minced meat.
It is believed that the cucumber penetrated into Europe thanks to the conquests of the ancient Greeks of southeast Asia. The Greeks called the cucumber "Aoros" (unripe), because the used unripe fruits for cooking.
