My ArtVenture: Pastel painting "The Elegance of sails"
Hello dear Steemians,
It is my Saturday post, which is a bit unusual as we use weekend for power up, but this week I missed couple of days in a week that is way this post today. Another reason is I received quite few questions regarding my pastel works and just wanted to tell you a bit of this medium.
Pastel is relatively rarely used medium, people think that they are just chalks with that little kids drawing on asphalt and not really for serious art works. That was my opinion too before I started to use them, actually I received my soft pastel sticks from my mother-in-law who used them in the past but have not used for years, so she simply asked me if I want them. As to me, everything with what you can create an art is of my interest, that's way I inherited that box.
Usually before I do anything I read about it first. I found that Pastel sticks contain pure pigment that is used in the same paints like oil, acrylic or watercolor. But they are more intense and rich because there is no binding stuff in them. As soon as I read it I said to me:
There are similarity in the way how you use pastels and paints: you can apply them on pastel paper, layer on layer to mix colors and then blend, or you can just blend after every color. Another way I have discovered you can just scrape the pastel powder with knife on your (I call it painting) you can mix the pigment powder of few different colors and them blend them. That makes more smooth appearacnce.
The next thing that makes me so attracted to pastel is that you can shape with your fingers the objects, blend and this creates an emotional connection to your art work.
In order to demonstrate you the difference between pastel work and acrylic I have created a pastel painting with my favorite topic Sails if you following my blog you might remember how the acrylic colors were looking like, I had to use Impressionism as acrylic dries quickly.
But here it is pastel version and you can see the difference the elegance of lines and intensity of colors. Therefore, my friends I just really recommend:
do not underestimate the beauty of Pastel works
Excellent post, I like the way you explain how you use this material. Definitely the only limitation to perform any type of art is in the creativity of a person. I have never seen such a beautiful and detailed work with this material as yours. So many colors so alive and well combined. Excellent post, greetings.
Thank you for the comment, I like it very much. It is when people would like to learn then everything is possible, this is my Logo :)
Your work is outstanding dear sir it's completely decent..
Thank you for your nice words and for visiting my post :)
A lot of things can be learned in your usual work which is outstanding because you do your work with your heart and it's the beauty of an artist.
Best wishes friend.
Thank you @juliawilliams it is good to share the experience only then people can try something and may fell in love with that. I am glad you found it interesting :)

Thank you for viewing and I am glad you like my work :)
At first I thought that this picuture was a watercolor painting!
As you say, when I was a little child I drew a picture using pastel, but I have not used it since my teens. But it can make such a beautiful picture... I learned about the new possibilities of pastels ;)
very beautifully composed and executed. Truly elegant, @stef1 ! :)
Thank you, Neha :)
You’ve got amazing control over this medium and your pieces are so vibrant and rich. I found pastels give me goosebumps when I touch them so I haven’t really explored them. I take my hat off to you for mastering such a tricky medium.
Thank you @stuffing for your compliments that is true it is difficult medium and sometimes one gets very frustrated but practicing helps a lot :)
