Ha pasado un buen tiempo desde mi último retrato a lápiz, ya hasta había olvidado lo hermoso que era trabajar en la técnica en la que más me destaco, volver a terreno cómodo, mi zona de confort...

Las series, libros o películas ambientadas en épocas antiguas que traten contenido real o ficticio, tanto bélico como histórico siempre han sido de mi agrado, de hecho me inspiraron a mis primeros proyectos de escritura de cuando era niño, recuerdo haber retratado a casi todos los personajes de la trilogía de El Señor de los Anillos cuando tenía unos 8 años por mi fanatismo por estas películas, En esta ocasión retraté al personaje de Ragnar Lothbrok, de la serie Vikingos transmitida desde el 2013 por History Channel, Personaje interpretado por Travis Fimmel, un actor Australiano nacido en el 1979, la obra me tomó cerca de 14 horas y aunque comparado con otras obras esta no me tomó tanto tiempo, dedicarle un día entero a un dibujo es algo bastante agotador, pero que siempre vale la pena!

The TV shows, books or movies set in ancient times that treat real or fictional content, both warlike and historical have always been to my liking, in fact they inspired me to my first writing projects as a child, I remember having portrayed almost all characters from the Lord of the Rings trilogy when I was about 8 years old for my fanaticism for these films, This time I portrayed the character of Ragnar Lothbrok, from the Vikings series aired since 2013 by History Channel, a character played by Travis Fimmel, an Australian actor born in 1979, the work took me about 14 hours and although compared to other works this did not take me so long, dedicating a whole day to a drawing is quite exhausting, but it is always worth it!

The Process

Como siempre el boceto inicial esta hecho con lápices 6H para tratar de no manchar la superficie desde un principio, hacer que el rostro se viera parecido al del actor fue algo sencillo, lo que realmente me resultó difícil fue trabajar la zona de la armadura (Hombros, espalda y parte del pecho) debido a la alta cantidad de elementos y detalles que se encuentran decorando esta área.

As always the initial sketch is made with 6H pencils to try not to stain the surface from the beginning, make the face look similar to the actor was something simple, what really was difficult was working the area of the armor (Shoulders , back and part of the chest) due to the high amount of elements and details that are decorating this area.

El Tatuaje

The Tatoo

Como podrán notar, el personaje en cuestión tiene un sinuoso tatuaje en la parte lateral de la cabeza, lograr que este tatuaje se integrara con la piel y que no se viera como una mancha superpuesta por encima del dibujo como tal es algo complicado, para esto tuve que lograr el equilibrio entre la dureza de los bordes y el degradado suave que lo integra con la piel.

As you may notice, the character in question has a sinuous tattoo on the side of the head, getting this tattoo to integrate with the skin and not look like a stain superimposed over the drawing as such is somewhat complicated, for this I had to achieve a balance between the hardness of the edges and the smooth gradient that integrates it with the skin.

La piel del personaje tiene una característica que la hace fácil de trabajar, y es que la dureza de los rasgos hace que el trabajo se facilite un poco, la cantidad de arrugas y manchas da cabida a trabajar libremente en los contrastes de la piel, en especial porque los ojos del personaje son bastante claros y logran resaltar si la piel se oscurece un poco.

The skin of the character has a feature that makes it easy to work, and is that the hardness of the features makes the work is a bit easier, the amount of wrinkles and blemishes makes it possible to work freely in the contrasts of the skin, in special because the eyes of the character are quite clear and manage to highlight if the skin darkens a little.

La Armadura

The Armor

La Armadura fue lo mas complicado de toda la obra, como lo expliqué antes, esta zona contiene una gran cantidad de detalles, brillos y texturas que complican mucho el poder trabajar con comodidad, aunque estos detalles son los que finalmente le dan mas realismo al dibujo, trabajé esta área con lápices 6B, 8B y 10B para lograr un oscurecido casi absoluto, además de usar un borrador moldeable (que por cierto hasta el día de hoy sirvió) para las iluminaciones y pequeños destellos.

The Armor was the most complicated of all the work, as I explained before, this area contains a lot of details, brightness and textures that make it very difficult to work with comfort, although these details are what finally give more realism to the drawing , I worked this area with pencils 6B, 8B and 10B to achieve an almost absolute darkening, in addition to using a moldable eraser (which by the way until today was useful) for the illuminations and small flashes.

Como algunos habrá notado me ausenté por varios días de la plataforma, la verdad es que las cosas por acá no están marchando del todo bien, tanto en Steemit como tal, como en mi situación personal, la verdad es que no me he sentido del todo bien para dibujar, supongo que soy un poco testarudo en ese sentido, me frustra el no poder dibujar y eso me hace sentir peor creando un bloqueo artístico bastante molesto y difícil de superar, además de que las pocas obras que subí desde hace 2 semanas no lograron el impacto que deseaba, en fin...trataré de dibujar a diario como lo estaba haciendo hasta hace un par de semanas, perdón a todos por mi ausencia...
