How to make your electric scooter go faster with a battery upgrade

In this post i want to share some basic electric information that you can use to modify your electric scooter to make it go faster or get a longer mileage without charging.

First of there are 2 things important with an electric battery: the voltages and amperage per hour.

The power of your electric motor is determined by how much watt it can generate. The formula for watt = volt multiplied by amperage. So to make your electric scooter go faster you need to get your amps and volt up.

For a dc electric motor the voltages will have an influence on the max rpm (= top speed) while the amps will have an influence on how fast you accelerate to that max rpm. In other words, to make your scooter go faster you need to put more voltage on your engine while the amperage will make it accelerate fast.

When you put batteries in series the voltages will become more.
Putting batteries in parallel will higher the amperage.
Wiring batteries in series and parallel will higher the amperage and voltage.

It's important to use the same type of batteries when wiring them together. Otherwise when 1 battery pack runs out of energy it will start to charge by the other batteries. It's not healthy to charge lithium batteries this way.

So for example let's say you now have a 36 volt battery with 6000 mah.
Putting the battery in series with another 36 volt battery of 6000 mah will make it go a lot faster in top speed.
Wiring the battery with another one in parallel will about double your total mileage range.
Combining 4 batteries together in parallel and series will double the range and power.

You have to make sure tho that the electric motor is capable of those high powers and also the controller won't burn out. Otherwise those will have to be upgraded as well.
A dc motor that is rated for 350 watt will usually handle up to 1000 watt. Usually manufacturers make them more capable than they are rated for. The problem is that you need better cooling or it will heat up and burn out.
