The self-launching, all-electric powered Pipistrel Taurus
A wonderful self-launching electric two-seat side-by-side sailplane.
I flew, then photographed, this beauty on a beautiful autumn day.
The electric motor and propellor module raises up on a pylon from where it's stowed behind the cockpit. Press a button, the motor revs up. No warm up time. Full throttle, take off, climb to altitude. Turn off the motor and stow it (automatically) back in its well, and work the lift.
Losing altitude? Rinse/wash/repeat. Electric motor endurance is good for a few climbs back up so it's not a one-time thing, then land and recharge.
A beautiful, beautiful airplane, wish I could afford one at $150K.
