STEEM Cycle Update: Heated Grips, For Keepin' My Fingas Toasty On the Go!
The weather's slowly warming up. It's not cold enough for gloves, but also not warm enough to bike without them. That frustrating middle ground! My heated jacket and pants are too warm, even turned off. I've invested in some lighter garments suitable for the season.
As for my bike, I think I've solved the problem by adding USB powered, electrically heated grips. I can choose between three heat levels, they run off the same accessories battery as the phone charger mounted to the handlebars.
I had a charging cable for the rear light plugged in before. I'll have to be on the lookout for a power bank with 3 or more USB ports now, if I want all the accessories connected at once. As for the temperature controller, figuring out where to put it was a bit of a hassle, but I settled on here:
I tried mounting it off to one side only for the casing to crack when it got pinned between the fork and the stem, when I turned the handlebars all the way left. I'll fix that with some superglue. Still works though, and the new placement is at least acceptable.
These are intended to be used with electric bikes, too. Chinese ebikes often have them as it gets bitterly cold in the Chinese winter, but people still have to travel and most only have ebikes as their powered transport option.
It works well enough for my purposes, and even adds a degree of springy cushioning to the handlebars that's quite comfy. The two velcro bits just barely reach, so I may have to permanently sew them on to keep them there. But all things considered, I'm pleased with the outcome.
What's next? Wind guards, probably. I only just learned about these. They mount to the same bit as the mirrors (I think?) and deflect wind from your hands. Wind guards, plus heated grips, means I may not even need gloves no matter how cold it is out.
More to come, watch this space.
Stay Cozy!
Next you should make a steemit rocket that flies to the moon. But no seriously you should make a little steemit rocket and shoot it off. I will give you 1 sbd to do it.
I will add one SBD to the pot.
I could see wind guards helping a shitload. You should work towards a local heat field generator powerful enough that you could ride your bike naked in winter and be completely comfortable.
A vital capability of course.
The bicycle looks interesting. Could you upload a full image?
This is a really cool looking bicycle. The heated grips is great. I don't think there is an electric bicycle here to make a purchase but would sure love to ride one.
I want to say thank you alex bayman in a big way becouse you have honestly helped me as a minnow. I have about 150 steem power and you have honestly probably helped me get 50 of that steem power so you have helped me grow in a huge way on steemit. I also have enjoyed all the new content you provide on a daily basis. All I want to say is you are helping people and making this platform a better place.
Ain't no thing but a chicken wing. Your comments are always amusing. (ˊ• ω •ˋ)
I am sorry but I couldn't resist. Hope that gave you a good chuckle. It made me snicker.
This is one cool Electric bicycle.
Also, did you watch "Altered Carbon"?
Alex - This bicycle has a motor & you can ride it manually too? It's a nice idea to have a electric bicycle... Very eco friendly solution... End of winter , now you can ride it well... Enjoy Alex...

Nice! It's always good not to have your fingers fall off due to frostbite every time you have to go to the store to pick up snacks.
How did you know I use it for snack runs? Are you having me followed? Whatever they're paying you, I'll double it.
I have been following you for awhile but I haven't been consistently reading your blog until recently so I missed most of the ebike posts. I did try to look them up using the search function but they don't appear to be showing up in chronological order.
I guess what I am wondering is have you ridden the bike yet and does it have jam? I know electric cars have unreal acceleration.
It's a 52 volt battery with a 48 volt motor for extra acceleration, so yes it jams. I've been riding the bike since last Summer.
Cool, thanks. Looking forward to more updates!
Wow, you are very lucky to have a sophisticated motorcycle. @alexbeyman
It's an electric bicycle. In the eyes of the law, anyway.
Sorry, if I say it wrong, it's a bike, my eyes are a little sleepy.
I want a giant red heated carpet. Where I would walk back and forth like a movie star. I will put it on the ground in the supermarket and walk, everyone will be fascinated! Or not :(
