It has been researched that Asia has the highest population of small scale farmers in the world. These farmers are the ones responsible for up to 70% of food produce. But the sad reality is that these people are the ones that get the lowest profit in the food supply chain.

Truckers

Truckers are the people that make farm produce available to people in the city. They engage in transportation of farm produce from the farmlands to the consumers. Truckers are one of the most important members of the food supply chain because without them, available produce on the farmlard cannot get to the consumers. They help in making fresh food available to final consumers through the means of transportation. Some of the truckers own their trucks and some other drive them for people using it for transportation to make an ends meet. The reality is that, to some of the hard work of these truckers, they gain less and face more risks and challenges on a daily basis.
As a result of the far distance between farmlands and marketplace, farmers find it difficult to transport their produce to the market. The volume could be very high because the cost of their produce could be very low. Even if the farmers can transport their produce by themselves to the market, to find consumers in time before their produce gets spoilt is a challenge.
