I'll eat eggs pretty much any style, shape, or form, but my favourite has always been a fried egg. Everything from a plate of sautéed greens to avocado toast can become a filling dinner when fried eggs are added, and they are practically straightforward to prepare.

There are several methods to fry an egg, from sunny-side up to over easy, but one approach in particular might be the most effective. A Spanish fried egg is something you should learn how to make as soon as possible.

What Is a Spanish Fried Egg?

Huevos fritos, or Spanish fried eggs, are as delicious as fried eggs get. They are fried in a very big amount of olive oil, and they are basted in the oil as they cook, as opposed to using just a little bit of olive oil or butter. A fried egg with incredibly crispy, lacy borders and a just-set yolk that almost melts in your tongue is the end product.

Spanish-Style Fried Egg Preparation

Pour about 1/4 inch of olive oil into a small, sturdy skillet to make a Spanish fried egg. Heat it to a scorching temperature over medium-high heat (but not smoking). Into a ramekin or cup, crack one egg. Carefully place the egg in the heated oil after turning the heat down to medium-low. As the egg cooks, pour a little oil over it. The egg should be taken out with a slotted spoon no later than 1 1/2 minutes (when the white puffs and becomes crispy and golden-brown around the edges, and when the yolk still jiggles). Serve with some freshly ground black pepper and some flaky salt.
