The Earth is Hotter, Scientists Concerned about Suicide Cases Increase.

The latest impact of climate change on health is called scientist quite troubling. Because climate change is associated with an increase in the number of suicides.

In a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change, researcher Marshall Burke of the Department of Earth System Science, Stanford University, called climate change to make the earth warmer. In the days when the heat peaked, it was also found increasing number of suicides.

Burke called the 1 degree Celsius weather increase in the United States and Mexico for one month could increase the incidence of suicide between 0.68 to 2.1 percent.

"We compared the temperature in two locations, and took the lowest point and the highest temperature point in a month, after which we checked with the suicide in the area," said Burke, quoted by CNN.
"We found a consistent correlation between increased temperature and increased suicide incidence. Of course this still has to be explored more deeply. Suicide is a complex phenomenon and is influenced by many factors, not just climate change," he added.

The study was conducted by analyzing the temperature of some regions in the US and Mexico. It is estimated that by 2050, climate change will affect 14,020 suicides in the United States, and 7,460 cases of suicide in Mexico.

Uniquely, the increase in weather temperature is also accompanied by an increase in depression-leveled posts on social media. Researchers have not been able to explain what the relationship between the heat of the earth with suicide.

"Our hypothesis is that the increasingly hot earth affects the work of the brain, especially the neurotransmitters. As we know, there is a relationship between the brain and hormones, which also affects mental conditions. But more data is needed to know the exact cause," closed Burke.
