My Book Annotation: One Hundred Years of Solitude and Two years in the French West Indies

Hello everyone , today is a great day to share to you my book annotation in class. Research papers, historical essay and book annotation are some of the most demanding and time consuming academic papers we have to deal right? The book that i had annotated were historical book that contributed to the Latin America and its Diverse Culture. The book that i choose to annotate are One Hundred Years of Solitude and Two years in the French West Indies. Introduction
One Hundred Years of Solitude is a masterpiece of Gabriel Garcia that received universal recognition. The book is said to be the most influential Latin American text of all time and set Garcia Marques in 1982 Nobel Prize for literature. Garcia Marques is considered one of the most significant authors of 20th century and one of the best authors in Spanish language. He was also awarded in the 1972 Neustadt International prize for Literature.

Garcia Marques book makes a statement about History and the importance of historical consciousness. The author takes a humorous yet challenging approach by rendering the reality of his own experiences in a fictional narrative. The book highlights the sketching histories of the civil wars, plantations, labour unrest and History of Colombia. Another challenging part of the book is the author uses a lot of symbolisms. In some of the chapters, yellow and red are the most used colour as a representation of imperialism and Spanish regime. Gold signifies for the search of colonizers for economic wealth. The book emphasizes the culture through its characters.

Conclusion
Overall this book narrates the story of Latin America discovered by European explorers with it struggles with colonialism to its emergence into modernity. The book is very interesting and would be a big help in history classes. History students will think deeper and evaluates every scenario.

Lafcadio Hearn is a Japanese International writer and known for his writings about the city of New Orleans based on his 10 years stay in United States. As a writer, Hearn was able to work with the Circinnaty Daily Inquirer and Harpers which has sent him to the West Indies as a further correspondent in 1887. Hearn’s two years in Martinique enables him to write and produced two books which are Two Years in the French West Indies and Youma, a story about West Indian slave.

Two Years in the French West Indies is a delightful book of notes on Hearn’s travel in the tropical islands of the Caribbean. The author elaborates what he seen while what he seen while landing on a new territory and describing it as completely opposite with the American shore. Hearn emphasizes its geographic set-up specially the beaches and compared it as a paradise. The book is comprised of two parts for a total of 524 pages that includes the regions and its people. Moreover, Hearn also highlights the similarities of its region starting from their language, culture and traditions.

The book is easily classifieds as narrative piece of work once you’ve read it. Indeed, this book is well explained and concise with its details and data which gathered by Hearn with describing the chronological order of events specifically. The book is intended for students, tourists and general readers who are interested in the Caribbean islands. As a history major this will help me understand how important it is to do the indigenization method or interacting and living with other culture to come up with a precise and accurate information.
