The Importance of Keeping 1-3 Year Olds Stimulated

The first 3 years of a child's life is when the grow and develop the fastest. It starts with motor development, like learning how to sit, walk, run, jump and climb, and so forth. After this development has been perfected, only then do children have the ability to learn how to read and count etc.

Stimulation is necessary to facilitate these skills and to make sure that they are developed optimally. It is up to us as parents and caregivers to ensure that we do provide sufficient and efficient stimulation to our young children.

Currently, in the rural areas of Indonesia, there are still many parents who pay little attention to the importance of stimulation in children, because there is still a presumption that the child will grow and develop naturally, without intervention. However, research shows that lack of stimulation in children can cause delays and developmental disorders.

Providing children with activities that stimulate their development in the first three years of childhood is very important, because the brain is ready and eager to learn!

It is also during this time (ages 1-3), that children become vulnerable to their surroundings and are easily influences. They take notice of language, emotions, actions and expressing. So, as parents, you need to watch what you say and do and set a good example always.

Children are a result of their environments. As a parent, you need to provide them with an environment that will help them to become well-adjusted and responsible human beings. My plea to you is to fulfill your child’s curiosity and their exploratory desires, by providing stimulation.
