Hello Steemians!

Recently, my twitter feed has been littered with tweets and retweets about this:

As a chemical engineer, I think it's timely for me to post something about this. Plus, I was amazed by how people are reacting in twitter. Here are some of them:

Exactly! Please don't mention that you love chemistry during the interview!

If you were able read my first #ulog post, you might have known already that I had the same experience. You can read that beautiful mistake here. It's really a good tip. Please don't mention anything about chemistry if you're planning to enrol at USC.

Another hilarious retweet is this:

I guess I can say the same. Just be prepared for everything.

Don't try to commit into something when you're not prepared.

You're going to a battle, that I can guarantee. You should be tough. If not, you should adapt and be tough along the way.

Another interesting retweet:

Why Jurassic Park? It's because when you think that nothing could go wrong, all hell gets loose.

Why Chemical Engineering?

Chemical engineers are dubbed as "universal engineers" probably because of the diverse fields of expertise that one can land into. According to the University of Cambridge Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering is not a restrictive choice. Meaning, chemical engineers who felt that they were not cut in a manufacturing industry are still highly employable in other areas like finance and scientific journalism. That's because chemical engineers are adept in problem solving and are good in analysis and management. The graph below are the non-exhaustive areas a chemical engineer might be interested in.

According to The Complete University Guide, Chemical Engineering is modern and applicable. This is because new areas of science and technology like Nanotechnology and Bioengineering are promising fields for chemical engineers. In these areas, research and development are the most sought after in the scientific community.

There are other reasons as well. Reasons are not limited to the following:

  1. Practicality. Since chemical engineering requires hands on knowledge, you will be equipped when you work in the industry specially in materials and machinery.
  2. Respect. Since you are to be equipped with analytical and problem solving skills, you will earn the respect at any event. Plus, the title is fancy and sophisticated. Another thing, you will be hailed as one of the graduates in one of the toughest courses there is to offer.
  3. Career Progression. Since you are analytical and a problem solver, your career path is surely paved for you. You will start the bottom, of course, but you will surely rise up in the corporate ladder up to the management level. If not, you will surely be able to start your own business.

The list could go on, but I'm just limiting myself to a few notable items. There are other cool perks not mentioned here.

Why University of San Carlos?

If you're from Cebu or its neighboring provinces, then there's no doubt that the University of San Carlos is the best university that offers a chemical engineering program. It has long been a Center of Excellence as awarded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). It was also accredited by the Philippine Technological Council (PTC) after it implemented Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) as a continuous quality improvement framework consistent with Washington Accord standards.

To add more, the Chemical Engineering Department has consistently produced topnotchers in the Chemical Engineering Licensure Examinations. Also, it has a 100% passing rate in the same examination for the years 2012, 2014, 2015, and 2016.

Should I add more? Now it seems I'm endorsing or advertising USC or Chemical Engineering. I was not compelled to do this nor paid to write this post. I guess this is my way of giving back to my alma mater. Again, this is personal.

If you're a senior high school graduate, you can consider chemical engineering in USC!
