This puzzle is based on a very old crossword grid that I found in a 1950s comic book (copyright expired). I changed some words, modified/updated many clues and published the new, improved crossword on my linguistics blog in 2012, but only a few students have seen this design masterpiece, so I am now sharing it with the Steemit community. Enjoy!

Sort:

I hate to waste toner when printing out puzzles like this one. The fact that the grid is perfectly symmetrical on all four sides means you can use a plain sheet of paper to fill in your answers: don't waste printer ink.

1

Just take an ordinary sheet of lined notebook paper, use a ruler to mark out an 11x11 grid: 121 small boxes, one for each letter.

2

Along each edge, put a big X in box #6, add one X on each side and one more above (to the left, right or below the first X), like this (for the left side):

X
XX
X

3

Finally, draw two long diagonal lines going through all but the center and outermost squares. Your grid is now ready to use.

Typing up this explanation probably took more time than actually pencilling in a couple of Xs. Have fun with the puzzle!
